Starting September 22, 2026, CookieScript is rolling out several platform updates. The changes are designed to make setup, testing, customization, and account management more flexible for both new and existing users.

Updated CookieScript Banner Design

CookieScript rebuilt its updated banner design from the ground up on a modern architecture. It adds more customization and banner control options, more granular button design controls, new banner designs, animations, improved keyboard control, and faster preview and banner loading.

All newly created CookieScript banners use the updated design by default. Existing banners continue using the previous design unless you switch manually.

How to Switch an Existing Banner to the New Design

To switch a banner created before September 22, 2026, enable the new design manually in the banner's Design settings.

If you use custom styling or advanced design settings, review the banner after switching to make sure it appears as expected.

What Happens to the Legacy Design?

The previous design will remain available for existing banners for the time being.

It will continue to receive:

• Limited maintenance.
• Selected bug fixes.

It will not receive:

• Major design improvements.
• Most new banner features introduced in the future.

Switching to the new design is recommended if you want to benefit from future banner improvements.

Pre-production Website and Staging Mode

CookieScript supports two separate workflows for testing and development, depending on whether the website is already live.

1. Pre-production website is for a website that is not live yet. You build it on a temporary domain, set up CookieScript there, scan and test it, and later move the same banner to the real production domain. It is available on all plans, including Free.

2. Staging mode is for a website that is already live. You keep the live banner unchanged while testing banner design, text, or blocking changes on a separate staging copy, then publish those changes when ready. It is available on paid plans.

They cannot be used on the same banner at the same time. While a banner is marked as pre-production, Staging mode is not available. Once the banner is moved to the production domain, Staging mode becomes available on supported paid plans.

Pre-production Website

While a banner is marked as a Pre-production website, it works normally on the temporary domain. You can scan the temporary website, configure and install the banner, test cookie and script blocking, record consents, logs, and statistics, and run scheduled scans.

Free users can now use Pre-production mode with a single domain slot, without needing a second domain for testing.

When the website goes live, the same banner can be moved to the production domain. The banner code stays the same, CookieScript updates the domain in the banner settings, and the cookie report moves to the production domain. Existing consents and statistics are retained.

Moving the banner does not automatically start a new cookie scan. The existing cookie report is moved to the production domain, so if the live website uses different cookies or scripts, you should run a new scan.

Staging Mode

When Staging mode is on, saved changes are published to the staging banner only. The live website continues showing the version last saved with Staging mode off.

Cookie and script blocking works normally on the staging website, so you can test banner design, text, blocking behavior, and how scripts respond before and after consent.

When testing is complete, turn Staging mode off and save to publish the current settings to the live banner.

The staging banner does not record:

• Consents.
• Statistics.
• Consent-log data.

Important: Staging code is for testing only. Do not use it on a public website with real visitors, because staging consents are not saved and cannot be used as proof of consent.

Updated Pricing and More Flexible Domain Plans

The CookieScript pricing structure is being updated for the first time in more than three years. The new structure reflects the rebuilt banner and the additional functionality now included across the platform.

The main changes are:

• A new 1-domain option with a staging domain included — testing a banner before launch no longer requires purchasing an additional domain slot.
• More flexible domain ranges — new options for 3, 7, 15, 30, and 150 domains reduce the need to move to a much larger plan when only a few additional domains are required.
• Volume discounts remain in place — the effective price per domain continues to decrease as more domains are added.

If you already have an active subscription with automatic payments enabled, your current plan and price will remain unchanged for a limited time, provided automatic renewal stays active. CookieScript will provide advance notice before any pricing change affects your subscription. If the subscription expires or automatic payments are canceled, any new subscription will use the current published pricing.

Can I test a Cookie Banner before my website goes live?

Does a staging cookie banner record visitor consent?

No. CookieScript’s Staging mode is intended for testing, so staging consents, statistics, and consent-log data are not recorded. The staging code should therefore not be used as the cookie banner on a public production website.
