Cookie consent banners allow website or app users to control how their personal data is used for advertising or analytics. Google, being in partnership with Consent Management Platforms (CMPs), helps to perform marketing campaigns, use analytics tools, and monitor conversions while maintaining compliance with GDPR and other privacy laws.
Google’s New CMP Requirements
Recently, Google launched new consent management requirements for CMPs to get Google certification for serving ads in the European Economic Area (EEA) and UK. Google certification needs an updated IAB TCF compliance. After certification, Google provides accreditations to experts in online advertising, which means that certified CMPs could use Google Ads products.
Publishers must now use a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) integrated with IAB’s TCF. It means that to advertise with Google, you need a Google-certified CMP. If a CMP is not present in the list of Google-certified CMP, it is not Google-certified, and you can't use Google advertisement products like Google AdSense, Ad Manager, or AdMob.
On 16 May 2023, Google announced new requirements for CMP partners that serve ads in the EEA or the UK. All partners using Google publisher products (Google AdSense, Ad Manager, or AdMob) will have to use a Google-certified CMP that integrates with the IAB Europe’s Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) when serving ads to users in the EEA or the UK. The decision follows from IAB Europe’s announcement that TCF V2.2 has been finalized. If a CMP does not have Google AdSense, Ad Manager, or AdMob certifications, you can’t use Google advertisement products using this CMP.
According to Google, certifying IAB TCF compliance “can establish a more unified and reliable approach to transparency and consent” and “will contribute to the ongoing evolution of user privacy and support a more privacy-conscious digital advertising ecosystem”.
We are proud to announce that CookieScript CMP has fulfilled new IAB TCF requirements and has become a Google-certified CMP. After a successful review and evaluation process, CookieScript CMP is included in a Google’s list of Google-certified CMPs and in Google’s list of Google Consent Mode integrations.
As a Google-certified CMP provider, CookieScript CMP integrates with the IAB TCF V2.2 framework and supports all ad publisher products — Google AdSense, Ad Manager, and AdMob. The TCF helps publishers to get user consent and share that data with advertisers. It allows users to interact with vendors through the CMP of the publishers. Read the guide on how to enable IAB TCF.
CookieScript is also fully integrated into most popular hosting platforms like WordPress, Wix, Shopify, and others, and website publishers can enable TCF compliance features on these platforms as a supplement to the regular CookieScript functionalities.
If you’re already a CookieScript CMP user, you do not need to do any further action. Your website or application will automatically meet Google’s new privacy requirements.
If you are a publisher who has not yet chosen a Consent Management Platform, or if your current CMP provider is not certified, you could start using CookieScript CMP. In addition to the IAB TCF functionality, CookieScript CMP offers additional features which are one of the best on the market:
- Cookie Scanner
- Cookie Banner design customization
- Cookie Banner behavior customization
- Multiple languages
- Banner sharing to other accounts
- Banner and client creation via API
- Cross-domain consent sharing, and more.
Google Consent Mode Certification
This is a second certification by Google, regulating consent management platforms. In 2020, Google launched Google Consent Mode. Google Consent Mode-certified CMP partners are integrated with Consent Mode and Google Tag Manager. Such Google Consent Mode-certified CMPs manage Cookie Consent banners and direct the consent management process by communicating the user cookie preferences to the Google tag via Consent Mode. Then the tag adjusts its behavior accordingly. CookieScript is also Google Consent Mode-certified CMP.
Certified CMP partners are integrated with Consent Mode and Google Tag Manager. CookieScript is a Google-certified partner of Google Consent Mode and has a Google Tag Manager (GTM). A GTM is the world’s most popular tool for management of third-party tags on websites, and it controls when these tags are triggered. See the list of all Google-certified partners of Google Consent Mode.
